How to play
Six letters appear. Find as many words as you can using only those letters, each letter no more times than it appears. Words must be three letters or longer.
Scoring rewards length: a three letter word is one point, four is two, five is four, and using all six letters is worth eight. The bar shows how much of the day’s total you have collected.
There is no timer and no limit on attempts. Come back later in the day and your progress is still there.
How to find more words
Start with the endings. If the rack contains an S, look for words that take one. If it contains ER, ED or ING letters, build the stem first and add the ending afterwards. Most people find the stem and forget the variant.
Work the three letter words deliberately. They are only one point each, but there are usually far more of them than anything else, and finding them surfaces letter pairs that lead to the longer words.
Try every vowel as an opener. Racks with two or three vowels hide a lot of words that begin with one, and they are the words people miss most, because the eye reaches for a consonant first.
Hunt the six letter word last, not first. Spending ten minutes staring at all six letters is the slowest way in. Find the fives, and the six usually appears as a five plus the leftover letter.
If you want the full list rather than the puzzle, the anagram solver will give it to you instantly. That is the tool. This is the game.
How the racks are chosen
Every rack is a real six letter word, chosen because it yields a lot of shorter words rather than at random. A rack that makes only nine words is a bad puzzle no matter how clever it looks.
Racks are ranked by how many words they produce and only the most productive are used, so there is always plenty to find. Answers are checked against ENABLE, the open dictionary of 269,870 words used everywhere on this site.
Questions
Do I have to use all six letters?
No. Any word of three letters or more counts. Using all six is simply worth the most points.
Can I use a letter twice?
Only if it appears twice in the rack. The letters shown are all you get.
Is it the same puzzle for everyone?
Yes. One rack per day, the same for every player, resetting at midnight.
What dictionary is used?
ENABLE, an open English word list of 269,870 words, the same one behind the unscrambler and the word lists here.
How is this different from the anagram solver?
The solver hands you every answer at once, which is what you want when you are stuck in a game elsewhere. This makes you find them yourself and keeps score.
