How These Lists Work

This is the index for every list on the site organised by which letters a word starts with. 2,445 of them exist, 273 at two letters and 2,164 at three. Between them the two letter pages account for 269,228 entries out of the 269,823 word dictionary, which is 100 percent of it.

The sets are nothing like equal in size. The largest are CO at 8,926 words, RE at 8,913 words, UN at 7,221 words, IN at 5,858 words, DE at 5,668 words. The smallest that still earned a page of its own are ADN at 10, AEG at 10, ARN at 10, ASI at 10, BOF at 10. Anything below 10 words has no page, because a list that short cannot be written about honestly and a page that pads it is worth less than no page at all.

Every page carries the complete list for its pattern, each word scored for both Scrabble and Words With Friends, because the two games value the tiles differently and a word worth opening with in one can be a wasted turn in the other. Each also carries the numbers for its own set: how the lengths are distributed, which words carry a J, Q, X or Z, which contain no vowel, and which are anagrams of each other.
